Start as a maker
Your first record, step by step.
A short guided path. You will learn what Colophon is, the wording rules that keep you safe, then register your first product, mint a tag for it, and see its passport. Your place is saved as you go, so you can stop and pick it up later.
Step 1 of 6 · What this is
Colophon is the evidence layer.
You make real things. Colophon gives each one a record that shows its working. You prove your materials with evidence drawn from public trade records, you decide what to say about your object, and we supply the timestamped, traceable record underneath.
It is evidence, not a certification. We do not approve your product or judge it. We surface verifiable facts and a transparent method, and we hold them in a tamper-evident record you can point any customer to.
You own the claim. We supply the record.
By the end of this path you will have one product registered, a Storefront Badge to drop on your page, an Aura Tag you can put on the physical object, and a public passport link a shopper can open.
Step 2 of 6 · The rules you will follow
A few words to use, and a few to never use.
These rules protect you. From 27 September 2026, unproven environmental claims and self-declared eco-labels are illegal to make in the EU, with no grace period. Colophon replaces marketing language with evidence, so our shared vocabulary stays on the safe side of that line. Here is the plain version.
What you can say
- Your measured material and labour cost, and the Material-to-Market Ratio.
- Raw-material provenance drawn from public CITES and UN Comtrade records.
- That the record is timestamped, traceable to its source, and shows its working.
- That a named artisan is on file, where that is true.
- That you are getting ahead of the EU Digital Product Passport, framed as readiness.
What you must not say
- Sustainable, eco-friendly, green, conscious, or responsibly crafted, as a guarantee.
- Climate neutral, carbon neutral, net zero, or planet positive.
- Certified, approved, seal of approval, or any wording that implies a certificate.
- That the record makes you compliant, or guarantees compliance, with any regulation.
- Guaranteed authentic or proof of authenticity. The tag links the object to its record.
Every figure you show publicly needs its source and a date beside it. A number without a source and a timestamp does not ship. When in doubt, describe what you measured and where it came from, and let the record speak.
Step 3 of 6 · Sign in
One private link, no password.
Enter your email and we send a single, private link. Open it on this device and you are signed in. Everything you register is owned by you.
Waiting on the link is fine. When you open it, come back to this page and the path resumes here, signed in.
You are signed in. Your session is on this device, so you can register your first product now.
Signed in. Ready to register.
Step 4 of 6 · Register your first product
Give your object a record it can carry.
Enter your object and its figures. The engine computes the spectacle multiple, the ratio of retail price to your own material and labour estimate, and returns its record. Your figures are your own estimates as of today.
You need to be signed in to register a product. Step back to sign in, then return here.
Step 5 of 6 · Put it to work
Three ways to show the record.
Register a product first, and its badge, tag, and passport will appear here.
Your object your object is registered, with a spectacle multiple of . Here is how to put its record in front of people.
Drop the Storefront Badge on your page.
One line of code renders the Material Integrity Record on any product page you control. It carries its own sources and states that you own the claim.
Mint an Aura Tag for the physical object.
An Aura Tag is an NFC or QR tag you put on the object itself. A shopper taps it and sees the same record, with no login. It links the object to its record; it does not prove the object is genuine.
Step 6 of 6 · You are set
That is the whole loop.
You have a registered product, a badge, a tag, and a passport. From here you can register more objects, manage everything in one place, or build the record into your own site.
